On 1st March as Kelly and her family were evacuating from their flooded home in Coraki they saw an Echidna clinging to life on a pole in the floodwater. They were in 7 meters of fast flowing water in a small tinny but they stopped to help!
Early the following morning Kelly called our rescue team and with advice from one of our most experienced echidna carers they able to take it to higher ground and release it in a safer area.
Kelly says “he took a little while to get going but he has moved on now. We were so happy we were able to save him”
The footnote to this story is that Kelly told us they had been collected by a friend and they have lost everything but the shirts on their backs and their dogs.
