With severe flooding occurring across our region, please be aware that wildlife will be distressed; many will be displaced and waterlogged by rising floodwaters and heavy rainfall.
Wildlife will in many cases be sheltering in unusual places. Please be compassionate and allow the animal to shelter, it may have nowhere else to go until the situation eases.
If you have found a sick, injured or orphaned animal, remove any threat to the animal. Gently place a towel over the animal and place it in a ventilated box with a lid. Place the box in a warm, dark, quiet place. Please call WIRES on 1300 094 737 for further advice, and please do not give the animal any food or water, unless instructed to by a vet or WIRES.
For sick, injured or orphaned flying-foxes or microbats please do not touch or try to contain it. Call WIRES Rescue Line immediately on 1300 094 737 for advice.
WIRES is advising its volunteers & the local communities to stay abreast of changing weather advice and adhere to any emergency warnings issued in their local area from authorities such as the BOM & SES.
Please remain vigilant and report any animals in distress or needing assistance to WIRES on 1300 094 737.
Please take care, stay safe and never enter floodwaters.
