Coastal taipan

Oxyuranus scutellatus

The Coastal Taipan can be found along the East coast of Australia from north-eastern New South Wales through Queensland and across the northern parts of the Northern Territory to northern Western Australia. It is venomous and has an average length of 2 meters. They are extremely alert, any movement near them will very likely trigger defence, however given the chance they will just like other snakes rather slither away.

The Coastal Taipan feeds on small mammals such as native and introduced rodents and birds.
