Monotremes are egg laying mammals. Once hatched milk is provided for the young by being secreted by pores on the female’s belly. The only Monotremes that are alive today are the Echidnas, and the Platypus.
There are four species of Echidnas, three are found in New Guinea , they are all Long-beaked echidnas , one species is found only in Australia and that is the Short-beaked echidna.
